Cerambycidae

The article gives a review of the Cerambycidae fauna of Shantar Islands. The trophic relationships and world distribution of longicorn beetles of the archipelago are considered. The data of the collected specimens are provided. To the one already known species we have added 20 previously unknown for the fauna of the Shantar Islands.

The important pests of the three main tree genera used in afforestation in Israel are described. The pine pests are the Israeli bast scale, Matsucoccus josephi; the pine processionary caterpillar, Thaurnetopoea wilkinsoni; the bark beetles Orthotomicus erosus, Pityogenes calcaratus and Tomicus destruens, and the Mediterranean shoot moth, Rhyacionia buoliana thurificana. The cypress pests are the bark beetles Phloeosinus armatus and P. aubei. The eucalypt borerPhoracantha semipunctata is the sole significant pest of eucalypts. All of these pests, except for the last, are considered endemic species which maintained themselves in the natural relict stands. Routine chemical control operations are conducted only against T. wilkinsoni. Natural enemies are capable of keeping the other pest populations under good control if appropriate silvicultural measures and practices are in use.

The main kinds of antennal teratology in Cerambycoidea are briefly analysed, with an overview of the examples
found in the literature. Additionally new teratological records in specimens of Vesperus luridus (Rossi, 1794), Pachytodes
cerambyciformis (Schrank, 1781), and Agapanthia villosoviridescens (De Geer, 1775) are described.

Four new species of the genus Doliops Waterhouse, 1841 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)
from Mindanao Island (the Philippines) are described and illustrated: D. cabrasae sp. n.,
D. imomzodai sp. n., D. ziedonisi sp. n. and D. rukmaneae sp. n. The genus Doliops in the
world fauna is now represented by 54 species.

Wood-boring beetles in the family Cerambycidae (Coleoptera) play important roles in many forest ecosystems. However, increasing numbers of invasive cerambycid species are transported to new countries by global commerce and threaten forest health in the United States and worldwide. Our goal was to identify effective detection tools for a broad array of cerambycid species by testing some known cerambycid attractants and a pheromone in different trap designs placed across a range of habitats. We compared numbers and species richness of cerambycid beetles captured with crossvane panel traps and 12-unit Lindgren multiple-funnel traps, placed either at ground level (1.5 m high) or canopy level (Ϸ3Ð10 m high), at eight sites classiÞed as either residential, industrial, deciduous forest, or conifer forest. We captured 3,723 beetles representing 72 cerambycid species from 10 June to 15 July 2010. Species richness was highest for the subfamilies Cerambycinae and Lamiinae, which accounted for 33 and 46% of all species captured, respectively. Overall, the cross-vane panel traps captured Ϸ1.5 times more beetles than funnel traps. Twenty-one species were captured exclusively in traps at one height, either in the canopy or at ground level. More species were captured in hardwood sites (59 species) where a greater diversity of host material was available than in conifer (34 species), residential (41 species), or industrial (49) sites. Low numbers of beetles (n Ͻ 5) were recorded for 28 of the beetle species. The number of species captured per week ranged from 49 species on 21 June to 37 species on 12 July. Cross-vane panel traps installed across a vertical gradient should maximize the number of cerambycid species captured.

"The abandonment of traditional agricultural practices and the introduction of large-scale industrial forestry has transformed landscapes and changed the conditions for wood-living organisms. This study examines changes in distribution and abundance of the 118 species of longhorn beetles (Col. Cerambycidae) recorded from natural habitat in Sweden over the 19th and 20th centuries, based on extensive surveys of museums, private collections and information in the literature, all in all more than 57 000 specific records compiled by 1400 collectors. The primary results are presented as maps of species’ distributions (-1900; 1901-1950; 1951-1975, and 1976-2000), population size indices (PSI s) based on species frequencies in subsets of the total material obtained by comparable collection methods, and estimates of abundance compiled from a succession of insect faunas spanning two centuries. Changing practices and preferences of collectors are examined in order to interpret the maps and indices and separate real changes of distribution and/or abundance from artefacts due to sampling biases. Appendices include the phenology of individual species and sources of data in the literature.

Distributions of most species have changed little during our period of study, and 45 of 103 species are still assigned to the same category of abundance today as in the faunas from the early 19th century. Similarly, tests and interpretations of the PSI s indicate that the abundances of 31 out of 76 analysed species have been quite stable since the 1950s. Other species seem to increase - 32 are considered more abundant today than in the early 19th century faunas, and 17 of the 76 analysed species appear to have become more common since the 1950s. However, there have also been substantial negative changes: 26 species are categorised as less abundant today than in the early 19th century, and 5-10 of these have probably gone extinct. Furthermore, tests and interpretations of the PSI s indicate that 16 of 76 analysed species have decreased in abundance over the last fifty years. Some of these are associated with burnt trees, a handful develop in large diameter sun-exposed dead oak wood, others utilise dead wood of lime, a couple live in open, grazed coniferous forests, two species mainly develop in old construction wood and one species is primarily found in old-growth spruce forests. Close to half of all Swedish species of longhorn beetles are red-listed. However, our analyses indicate that few red-listed species meet the IUCN thresholds for population decline, suggesting that the thresholds are set too high to detect declining longhorn beetles (and perhaps insects more generally), but also that some red-listed species seem to increase and should be removed from the list. Our results also indicate that red-listed species whose narrow distributions have been the same for a long time may be limited by other factors than substrate availability, and therefore be more resilient to habitat change than their red-list classification suggests. Conversely, species with recently contracting ranges of distribution may be even more at risk than their threat categories imply.

A final section briefly discusses monitoring of future trends and gives some suggestions on how conservation measures may be designed to better meet regional conservation needs."

Arvīds Barševskis . Contribution to the knowledge of the genus Doliops Waterhouse, 1841 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae). Baltic J. Coleopterol., 13 (2): 73 -89. Eight new species of the genus Doliops Waterhouse, 1841 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) are described and illustrated: D. anichtchenkoi sp. n., D. gutowskii sp. n., D. savenkovi sp. n., D. shavrini sp. n., D. sklodowskii sp. n., D. stradinsi sp. n, D. valainisi sp. n. and D. vivesi sp. n. New faunistic data for 17 species are given. A check-list for the genus Doliops Waterh. is proposed. The key for determination of species related to D. curculionoides Waterh. is given. The shape of the aedeagus is employed in the determination of Doliops Waterh. for the first time. To the present day, 42 species (including new) of the genus Doliops Waterh. are known, which are distributed in the Philippine archipelago and some islands south of Taiwan. Metapocyrtus (Curculionidae: Pachyrrhynchini) is remarkable because of its general habitus, rounded appearance, short legs, specific shape of antennae, coloration, shapes of the scales of stripes and other features (Vives 2005, Cabigas 2010).

Cladistic analysis of the tribe Rhopalophorini Blanchard, 1845 (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae). Rhopalophorini is primarily a New World group. Of the 23 known genera, 19 were described from the Neotropical region. A cladistic analysis of the American genera was carried out with 91 morphological characters. The genera Ozodes Audinet-Serville and Lissozodes Bates, recently transferred to Necydalopsini, were included in the analysis in order to investigate their relationships with the Rhopalophorini. The results suggested that their shared similarities with the Rhopalophorini are symplesiomorphies at the level considered in the analysis, so they are maintained in Necydalopsini, and Neozodes Zajciw, indicated as the sister group of Ozodes, is herein transferred to this tribe. In the same way, Elaphopsis Audinet-Serville is transferred to Ibidionini. Rhopalophorini, as defined in the present work, is a monophyletic group and includes 17 American genera. Within Rhopalophorini, Argyrodines + Parozodes constitute the basalmost group, and Cycnoderus is the sister group of the two major clades formed, one by Ischionodonta, Disaulax, Cosmisoma, Closteropus and Gurubira, and the other, by Rhopalophora, Coremia, Merocoremia, Dirocoremia, Thalusia and Lathusia; the relationships of Rhopalophorella, Rhopalina and Muxbalia remain inconclusive. A phylogenetic classification of Rhopalophorini at the genus level is proposed.

This catalogue presents a list of Dorcadion Dalman and Neodorcadion Ganglbauer species collected mainly in Romania and preserved in the collections of the Natural History Museum of Sibiu. Abstract. Acest catalog prezintă o listă cu speciile de Dorcadion Dalman și Neodorcadion Ganglbauer colectate în special din România și aflate în colecțiile Muzeului de Istorie Naturală din Sibiu.

In this article, the data on the Cerambycidae fauna of Karaman province were evaluated. The samples evaluated in the study were collected from 27 different localities in Karaman province between the years 2009-2021. As a result of the evaluation, 82 species group taxa belonging to 34 genera from 7 subfamilies were identified for the Cerambycidae fauna of Karaman province and presented in the text. Among these taxa, 26 species group taxa are endemic to Turkey. Therefore, approximately 32% of the fauna consists of endemic taxa. 58 species groups, taxa, 25 genera and 3 subfamilies identified in the present study are recorded for the first time from Karaman province. In addition, photos of studied taxa are presented at the end of text.

. Contribution to the knowledge of long-horned beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in Latvia. Baltic J. Coleopterol., 13(2): 91 -102. The current paper provides data on the occurrence and distribution of 48 long-horned beetle species in Latvia. One species -Grammoptera ustulata (Schaller, 1783) -is reported for the first time for the fauna of the Baltic states (incl. Latvia). Two species -Agapanthia violacea (Fabricius, 1775) and Phytoecia pustulata (Schrank, 1776) -are new for the Latvian fauna. New findings for a number of rare species are presented. For two species -Stenurella bifasciata bifasciata (O.F.Müller, 1776) and Phytoecia virgula (Charpentier, 1825) -the tendency to expand their range northwards is detected. This finding, possibly, indicates climate changes.

1 We compared standard multiple-funnel, modified multiple-funnel, intercept panel and canopy malaise (SLAM) traps with top and bottom collecting cups for their effectiveness (species richness, rarity, abundance) at capturing Cerambycidae in eastern North America. 2 Experiments were conducted in New York, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Georgia in 2011 and 2012. A combination of pheromones and host volatiles chosen to match local forest types were used as lures. 3 Species richness tended to be higher in SLAM and modified funnel traps than standard funnel and intercept panel traps. SLAM traps also captured the highest number of species, unique species, rare (species accounting for ≤ 1% of total cerambycids at a site) and singleton species at each site. 4 Individual-based rarefaction and sample-based species accumulation curves suggested that SLAM traps are more effective for capturing cerambycid species. For many estimates, modified funnel and funnel traps were lower than SLAM traps but greater than intercept panel traps for describing cerambycid communities. 5 Modified funnel and SLAM traps generally captured the highest abundance of cerambycids but the response of the individual subfamily and species varied by trap type. 6 SLAM traps should be considered as a strong tool to describe cerambycid communities when used in conjunction with pheromones and host volatiles.

Accepted: december 15 th 2010 The Dalmatian coast and islands were mainly investigated by entomologists during the 19 th and 20 th centuries, but only few species were recorded for the beetle fauna of Kornati Islands, observed after a few sporadic and short-term studies. In 2009, members of the student organization "BIUS" carried out a faunistic survey of the islands Kornat, Žut and Lavsa in order to compile a more comprehensive species inventory of the families Carabidae, Cerembycidae and the superfamily Scarabaeoidea of these islands. Altogether 39 species belonging to the studied groups were found, 35 of them recorded on those islands for the first time. The most interesting was the record of Parmena bicincta Küster, 1849 (Cerambycidae), an endemic species of the Adriatic coast area. This is the first record of this species on Lavsa Island.

The new species Filipinmulciber vivesi sp. n. (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) from the Luzon
Island (Philippines) is described and illustrated. An updated check-list of the genus
Filipinmulciber is proposed. The genus Filipinmulciber in the world fauna is now represented
by three species.

Viene riportato un elenco preliminare di 37 specie di Cerambycidae presenti nel Parco Naturale delle Alpi Marittime (Piemonte, provincia di Cuneo), rinvenuti durante uno studio faunistico eseguito nell'estate del 2014 in alcune zone dell'area protetta. Sono elencate anche Morimus asper e Rosalia alpina, specie incluse nella Direttiva Habitat 92/43/CEE e nelle liste rosse IUCN. A fronte delle notizie reperibili in letteratura circa la famiglia in questione ed i nuovi ritrovamenti (10 specie nuove per il Parco), le specie complessivamente note per l'area protetta diventano, ad oggi, 58.

The taxonomic and faunistic data on species of the endemic for the Philippines archipelago
genus Lamprobityle Heller, 1923 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) are provided. Three new species
are described: L. katrinae sp. n., L. kristinae sp. n. and L. zeltitae sp. n. The key for all known  ten species of the genus is given for the first time.

1. Entomopathogenic nematodes can function as indirect defence for plants that are attacked by root herbivores. By releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), plants signal the presence of host insects and thereby attract nematodes. 2. Nonetheless, how roots deploy indirect defences, how indirect defences relate to direct defences, and the ecological consequences of root defence allocation for herbivores and plant biomass are essentially unknown. 3. We investigate a natural below-ground tritrophic system, involving common milkweed, a specialist root-boring beetle and entomopathogenic nematodes, and asked whether there is a negative genetic correlation between direct defences (root cardenolides) and indirect defences (emission of volatiles in the roots and nematode attraction), and between constitutive and inducible defences. 4. Volatiles of roots were analysed using two distinct sampling methods. First, we collected emissions from living Asclepias syriaca roots by dynamic headspace sampling. This method showed that attacked A. syriaca plants emit five times higher levels of volatiles than control plants. Secondly, we used a solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) method to sample the full pool of volatiles in roots for genetic correlations of volatile biosynthesis. 5. Field experiments showed that entomopathogenic nematodes prevent the loss of biomass to root herbivory. Additionally, suppression of root herbivores was mediated directly by cardenolides and indirectly by the attraction of nematodes. Genetic families of plants with high cardenolides benefited less from nematodes compared to low-cardenolide families, suggesting that direct and indirect defences may be redundant. Although constitutive and induced root defences traded off within each strategy (for both direct and indirect defence, cardenolides and VOCs, respectively), we found no trade-off between the two strategies. 6. Synthesis. Constitutive expression and inducibility of defences may trade off because of resource limitation or because they are redundant. Direct and indirect defences do not trade off, likely because they may not share a limiting resource and because independently they may promote defence across the patchiness of herbivore attack and nematode presence in the field. Indeed, some redundancy in strategies may be necessary to increase effective defence, but for each strategy, an economy of deployment reduces overall costs.

Two new species of the genus Callimetopus Blanchard, 1853 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)
are described and illustrated: C. danilevskyi sp. n. (Philippines, Luzon) and C. lazarevi sp.
n. (Philippines, Mindanao). New faunistic data for C. ornatus Schultze, 1934 is given. The
genus now inludes 36 described species, which are distributed in the Philippine archipelago,
Moluccan archipelago, Indonesia and Malaysia.

As a consequence of the recent introduction of the pine wood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in Portugal, nematodes of the genus Bursaphelenchus were looked for in various French pine forests, in trees attacked by Monochamus galloprovincialis, the vector insect of B. xylophilus, and in the insects themselves. Trap trees were felled in 12 localities distributed all over the country. Nematodes were extracted from transversal stem discs; insects emerging from the trap trees were studied. B. hellenicus, B. leoni, B. mucronatus and B. sexdentati were isolated, but not B. xylophilus. The presence of B. mucronatus and the absence of B. xylophilus were confirmed by molecular markers. B. mucronatus was isolated from several regions with an average prevalence of 19%. The infestation of M. galloprovincialis by B. mucronatus reached 26.7%. Suite à la récente introduction du nématode du pin Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, au Portugal, les nématodes du genre Bursaphelenchus ont été recherchés dans diverses forêts de pins françaises, sur les arbres attaqués par Monochamus galloprovincialis, le vecteur de B. xylophilus, et sur les insectes eux-mêmes. Des arbres pièges ont été abattus dans 12 localités réparties sur le territoire national. Les nématodes ont été extraits de sections transversales de tronc, et les insectes émergeant des arbres pièges ont été étudié. B. hellenicus, B. leoni, B. mucronatus et B. sexdentati ont été isolés, mais pas B. xylophilus. La présence de B. mucronatus et l'absence de B. xylophilus ont été confirmées par des marqueurs moléculaires. B. mucronatus a été isolé de plusieurs régions avec une fréquence moyenne de 19 %. Le taux de contamination de M. galloprovincialis par B. mucronatus atteignait 26,7 %. Two new endemic species of the genus Acronia Westwood, 1863 (Coleoptera:
Cerambycidae) from the Philippines are described and illustrated: A. streicsi sp. nov. and A.
teterovi sp. nov. An updated check-list of the genus Acronia is proposed. The genus Acronia
in the world fauna is now represented by 14 species.

Interesting material of Dorcadionini tribe housed in the collection of Lodos Entomological Museum (LEMT) İzmir, Turkey are evaluated. A total of 26 species group taxa (12 species and 14 subspecies) belonging to three genera are presented. Among them, 20 species group taxa (11 species and 9 subspecies) are endemic to Turkey. D. quadrimaculatum quadrimaculatum Küster is recorded and confirmed for the first time

During field screening trials conducted in Brazil in 2015, adults of both sexes of the cerambycid beetles Cotyclytus curvatus (Germar) and Megacyllene acuta (Germar) (subfamily Cerambycinae, tribe Clytini) were significantly attracted to racemic 3-hydroxyhexan-2-one and racemic 2-methylbutan-1-ol, chemicals which previously have been identified as male-produced aggregation-sex pheromones of a number of cerambycid species endemic to other continents. Subsequent analyses of samples of beetle-produced volatiles revealed that males of C. curvatus sex-specifically produce only (R)-3-hydroxyhexan-2-one, whereas males of M. acuta produce the same compound along with lesser amounts of (2S,3S)-2,3-hexanediol and (S)-2-methylbutan-1-ol. Follow-up field trials showed that both sexes of both species were attracted to synthetic reconstructions of their respective pheromones, confirming that males produce aggregation-sex pheromones. The minor pheromone components of M. acuta, (S)-2-methylbutan-1-ol and (2S,3S)-2,3-hexanediol, synergized attraction of that species, but antagonized attraction of C. curvatus to (R)-3-hydroxyhexan-2-one. Beetles of other cerambycine species also were attracted in significant numbers, including Chrysoprasis linearis Bates, Cotyclytus dorsalis (Laporte & Gory), and Megacyllene falsa (Chevrolat). Our results provide further evidence that 3-hydroxyhexan-2-one is a major component of attractant pheromones of numerous cerambycine species worldwide. Our results also highlight our increasing understanding of the crucial role of minor pheromone components in imparting species specificity to cerambycid pheromone blends, as is known to occur in numerous species in other insect families.

A new species from Colombia is described: Ectenessa caputnigra sp. nov. Taxonomic notes on Adiposphaerion rubrum Martins & Napp, 1992, new geographical records to 11 species and the specific locality in Colombia for five species are provided. Resumo Uma nova espécie é descrita para a Colômbia: Ectenessa caputnigra sp. nov. Adicionalmente, notas taxonômicas sobre Adiposphaerion rubrum Martins & Napp, 1992, 11 novos registros e a localidade específica na Colômbia para cinco es-pécies são apresentadas.

Nuovi dati faunistici ed ecologici di Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758) in Calabria (Insecta Coleoptera Cerambycidae) Riassunto Si riportano i dati di ritrovamento di Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758) , specie di interesse comunitario e di notevole pregio conservazionistico, nella Sila Piccola (Calabria, Catanzaro, comune di Magisano) nel Parco Nazionale della Sila. Si riportano i primi dati della presenza della specie su Acer opalus e Quercus petraea per l'Italia meridionale. I dati sono discussi in relazione alle esigenze trofiche ed ecologiche della specie, concentrando la questione nella conservazione della specie, al fine di fornire dati utili alla rivalutazione dello stato attuale di distribuzione ed allo stato di conservazione. Abstract [New faunistical and ecological data on Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera Cerambycidae) in Calabria, southern Italy]. The paper reports new faunistical and ecological data on Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758) in the National Park of Sila, Calabria. This species is listed on Annex II of EU Council regulation 92/43/ EWG and classified as a priority species. For those parts of its distribution range where the populations and mainly its habitat are declining, national conservation measures are urgently needed. For the first time Rosalia alpina was found on Acer opalus and Quercus petraea trees, in Calabria, southern Italy. The results are discussed in a trophic and ecological context, aimed to provide new data on the present distribution and on the conservation status of the species.

An updated inventory of the Cerambycidae occurring in the Tremiti islands is proposed through published and unpublished data. Stictoleptura cordigera cordigera (Fuessly, 1775), Trichoferus holosericeus (Rossi, 1790), Stenopterus rufus rufus (Linnaeus, 1767) and Pogonocherus neuhausi G. This paper presents the results of the fauna of longhorn beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) of the Gledić Mountains (Central Serbia). The obtained data present the first contribution to the study of longhorn beetles of the mountains. Based on the material collected from 2011 to 2013, 41 species from four subfamilies were recorded and the highest number of species is registered within the subfamilies Cerambycinae (15) and Lamiinae (14). Stictoleptura cordigera (Fuessly, 1775) is reported for the first time for Central Serbia. The additional rare longhorn beetle Stictoleptura erythroptera (Hagenbach, 1822) has been recorded. A single subspecies Saphanus piceus ganglbaueri Brancsik, 1886 is Balkan endemic. Four recorded taxa [(Cerambyx (Cerambyx) cerdo cerdo Linaeus 1758., Morimus asper funereus Mulsant, 1862., Agapanthia kirbyi (Gyllenhal, 1817) and Saphanus piceus ganglbaueri Brancsik, 1886)] are protected both nationally and internationally. According to the system of chorotype classificaion of serbian longhorn beetles, proposed by ILIĆ (2005), the most of recorded species belong to Euro- Mediterranean chorotype and prefer steppe habitats, what suggests that habitats in the Gledić Mountains and Šumadija region are increasingly assuming more sub-Mediterranean and steppe features due to negative human impact, stronger presence of continental climate and deforestation.

Release rates of a blend of monoterpenes (spruce blend) and ethanol signiÞcantly affected mean trap catch of Tetropium fuscum (F.), Tetropium castaneum L., and Tetropium cinnamopterum Kirby. Addition of an ethanol lure to traps baited with the spruce blend lure was necessary to attract T. castaneum and T. cinnamopterum and signiÞcantly increased attraction of T. fuscum. The combination of spruce blend and ethanol at high release rates had the highest mean catch of Tetropium spp. and was the only lure treatment that resulted in capture of T. fuscum and T. castaneum (in Poland) in every test block, suggesting it would be the best for detection surveys among the lures tested. The effect of trap design on mean catch of T. fuscum was inconsistent. In one experiment, the larger collapsible cross-vane Colossus trap caught about twice as many beetles as the IPM-Intercept trap, but in two other experiments, mean catch did not differ signiÞcantly. Type of killing agent in the collecting bucket signiÞcantly affected mean catch of T. fuscum. Traps with liquid killing agent (50/50 mixture of propylene glycol and deionized water plus 0.5 ml/liter of Kodak Photo-Flo 200 and 12.5 mg/liter of Bitrex) in the collecting bucket caught more beetles than traps with an insecticidal (dichlorvos) strip. Although any of cross-vane traps tested seem suitable for trapping several cerambycid species, the Colossus trap with liquid killing agent is recommended for use as a detection tool for T. fuscum because it caught similar or greater numbers than the other trap types.

Acronia layroni sp. nov. (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Lamiinae: Pteropliini) is described
and illustrated. An updated check-list of the genus Acronia Westwood, 1863 is proposed.
In biogeographical aspect, the largest diversity of species of Acronia are known from Luzon
Island (9 species), Mindanao Island (4 species), from Samar Island is known only two species
and from Siargao Island - one species.

Five cases of teratology in Coleoptera are described, in the families Carabidae and Cerambycidae. The described teratologies are dystrophy and melomelia of the legs, antennal schistomelia and trematoelytria. For one case, the term “trematocheilia”, or punching of the labrum, is introduced.

The egg parasitoid Avetianella longoi Siscaro attacks two species of eucalyptus longhorned borers (Phoracantha semipunctata F. and P. recurva Newman) in southern California. During the past decade, P. recurva has replaced P. semipunctata as the dominant borer species, apparently due to diVerential rates of parasitism. The present study reveals that this replacement is due in part to a physiological defensive response mounted by one species (P. recurva) against parasitoid eggs and larvae, similar to the encapsulation/melanization immune response observed in larval host/parasitoid systems. Fluorescence microscopy and vital dyes conWrmed that the defensive response was cellular in nature. Both Phoracantha species exhibited a cellular wound-healing response around the wasp egg pedicel, but the encapsulation of the wasp eggs/larvae was elicited only in eggs of P. recurva. This is the Wrst conclusive evidence that hosts in the egg stage can mount a cellular immune response against a metazoan parasitoid, and may provide insight into the mechanisms underlying the host speciWcity of many egg parasitoids.

A new species of the genus Mimacronia Vives, 2009 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), which is
endemic to the Philippine archipelago, is described and illustrated. New taxonomic changes
are proposed: Mimacronia viridimaculata (Breuning, 1947) stat. n. and comb. n. (from
Acronia alboplagiata var. viridimaculata Breuning, 1947) = Mimacronia novemmaculata
Hudepohl, 1995 syn. n. An updated catalogue of the genus Mimacronia is given.

Vesperidae and Cerambycidae in Tuscan Archipelago: synthesis of knowledge and new data (Coleoptera: Cerambycoidea). Un update of the families Vesperidae and Cerambycidae occurring in Tuscan Archipelago is proposed through published and unpublished data. Rosalia alpina (Linnaeus, 1758), Parmena gr. pubescens, Parmena balteus (Linnaeus, 1767) and Agapanthia cardui (Linnaeus, 1767) are excluded. Prinobius myardi myardi Mulsant, 1842, Rutpela maculata maculata (Poda, 1761), Stenurella nigra (Linnaeus, 1758), Icosium tomentosum tomentosum Lucas, 1854, Penichroa fasciata (Stephens, 1831), Nathrius brevipennis (Mulsant, 1839), Deilus fugax (Olivier, 1790), Phymatodes testaceus (Linnaeus, 1758), Poecilium alni alni (Linnaeus, 1767), Agapanthia suturalis (Fabricius, 1787) and Agapanthia asphodeli (Latreille, 1804) are quoted for the first from the Tuscan Archipelago.
