KVOO-FM (98.5 FM) is a country music radio station in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The station picked up the heritage calls and a country music format in 1988. It shared the call letters with a co-owned AM station until it changed to a news/talk format as KFAQ in 2002. Its studios are located in Midtown Tulsa and the transmitter is in the Osage Reservation north of Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
The FM station was originally established in the early-1970s as KBJH, a religious radio station founded by evangelist Billy James Hargis.
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, the station went by the call letters KCFO, "Love 98" FM, and played Contemporary Christian music.
Journal Communications (KVOO-FM's owner) and The E.W. Scripps Company (owner of NBC's local affiliate KJRH-TV) announced on July 30, 2014 that the two companies would merge to create a new broadcast company under the E.W. Scripps Company name that will own the two companies' broadcast properties, including KVOO-FM. The transaction is slated to be completed in 2015, pending shareholder and regulatory approvals.[1]
