The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the Life studies course in Turkey by exami... more The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the Life studies course in Turkey by examining the articles. Qualitative research method was used to this end. 96 articles written from 2005 to 2018 that were chosen through purposeful sampling were analyzed. The studies were selected from the international articles included in SCI, SCI-Expanded, SSCI, AHCI, Educational Index, ERIC, Ebscho, Ulakbim and Google Scholar databases. The publication classification form was used after its revision for the studies on the Life Studies course in order to evaluate the said publications. Each publication was subjected to content analysis and the data concerning the publications were recorded in a database. It is seen that mostly the documents are preferred as the sample group of the studies examined, the sample size usually varies between 0-50 people, and qualitative research designs are preferred more in the studies. When the findings are examined in terms of data collection tools, it is observed that mostly documents, interviews and open-ended questionnaire opted. As a data analysis method, it is concluded that the content analysis studies expressed by frequencies and percentages are predominant and t-test is a type of analysis which is frequently applied.

Bu çalışmada sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının empati hakkındaki görüşlerini belirlemek ve Hayat Bilgis... more Bu çalışmada sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının empati hakkındaki görüşlerini belirlemek ve Hayat Bilgisi dersine yönelik geliştirdikleri empati temelli etkinlikleri incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılan çalışmada, Sınıf Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı 3. ve 4. sınıf öğretmen adaylarından oluşan toplam 46 kişi belirlenmiştir. Öğretmen adaylarına empati kavramı ve Hayat Bilgisi derslerinde empatinin önemi hakkındaki görüşlerini belirlemeye yönelik sorulardan oluşan açık uçlu anket ve görüşme uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca İlkokul 3. sınıf Hayat Bilgisi ders kitabında bulunan konulardan empatik etkinliklere yer verilmiş olanlar tespit edilmiş, ardından öğretmen adaylarının bu konuların kazanımlarıyla ilgili olarak alternatif etkinlikler geliştirmeleri istenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda öğretmen adaylarının genel olarak empatiyi önemsedikleri, Hayat Bilgisi başta olarak diğer derslerde de kullanılmasının önemli olduğunu düşündükleri görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğretmen adaylarının geliştirdikleri etkinliklerde örnek olay incelemesi, drama, resim çizme, altı şapkalı düşünme, mektup ve günlük yazma gibi yöntemler kullanarak konuyla ilgili etkinlikler oluşturdukları görülmüştür. Öğretmen adayları oluşturdukları empati temelli etkinliklerin Hayat Bilgisi dersinde öğrencilerin aktif olmaları için oldukça önemli olduğunu düşünmektedirler.

Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2019 ABD (Washington) sosyal bilgiler öğretim programı ile Türkiye 2018 sosyal bilgiler öğretim programı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma nitel bir çalışma olup, dölüman incelemesi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimsel analiz yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucuna göre her iki ülkenin programında vurgulanan amacın “Vatandaşlık becerisi ve yetkinlik” kazandırma olduğu; kapsam, içerik ve temel ve değerler, öğrenme ve öğretme süreci açısından çoğunlukla benzer olduğu; sosyal bilgiler dersinin ilkokulda farklı sınıf seviyelerinde okutulmaya başlanması ile ölçme ve değerlendirme açısından farklılıklar olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

For this purpose, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The data source of the research is "Fredo 4 Mathematics" in Germany and "Primary School 4th Grade Mathematics Textbook" in Turkey. In the research, descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the data, and the results were reflected in frequency and percentage tables. The results of the research show that the activities in the mathematics textbooks of both countries are mostly "classical word problems" and the problems include real contexts. Programı'nın dayandıkları eğitim felsefesi, amaçları, öğrenme-öğretmen süreci, ölçme ve değerlend... more Programı'nın dayandıkları eğitim felsefesi, amaçları, öğrenme-öğretmen süreci, ölçme ve değerlendirme süreci açısından benzer özellikleri taşıdığı; programın yapısı ve içerik açısından farklılıklar olduğu sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır. Bu farklılıklar şunlardır; KKTC programının öğrenme alanı temelli; Türkiye Cumhuriyeti programının ünite temelli içeriğe sahip olduğu, öğrenme çıktı sayısının KKTC programında daha fazla olduğudur. Ayrıca değerler açısından KKTC 2016 hayat bilgisi öğretim programının çok kültürlülüğe hitap eden değerlere; Türkiye Cumhuriyeti 2018 hayat bilgisi öğretim programının temel değerlere yer verildiği bulgularına ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre şu önerilerde bulunulmuştur; KKTC hayat bilgisi öğretim programının beceriler kısmının hayat bilgisi dersine özgü beceriler ile ilgili desteklenerek açıkça ifade edilmesi programın ülkenin yerel ve gelecek durumunu yansıtabilen öğretim programları oluşturulma gerekçesine uygun olacaktır. Bununla birlikte Türkiye Cumhuriyeti hayat bilgisi dersi açısından uzun bir tarihsel geçmişe sahiptir; her iki ülkenin bu dersin hem yerel hem de küresel boyutta ihtiyaç duyulan insan gereksinimlerini yetiştirme hedefi açısından etkileşimde olması, karşılıklı uygulama çalışmalarına yer verilmesi önerilmektedir.

The sample of this study consists of 360 studies published in journals within the scope of SSCI, SCI-Expanded, ESCI, SCOPUS, and ERIC. The publication classification form was used in the analysis of the studies. In this research, descriptive- content analysis, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. According to the results, the studies were published in the Education Sciences Journal and published in journals with SSCI and SSCI-exp index the most. In this study, the tendencies of the studies on thinking skills in Life Studies and Social Studie... more In this study, the tendencies of the studies on thinking skills in Life Studies and Social Studies courses were determined. For this purpose, the study was carried out by the meta-synthesis method. The study group consists of a total of (n=100) articles and theses studies on thinking skills in Life Studies and Social Studies courses. Data were analyzed by document review. According to the meta-synthesis method, each study was coded, and divided into meta-themes. Then, each meta-theme was analyzed; and synthesized. According to the results of the research; It has been observed that the studies on thinking skills in Life Studies and Social Studies courses are mostly experimental design studies that measure the level of critical thinking skills. It was found that most of the studies were conducted in 2019 and the study group was "secondary school students". In addition, it has been observed that “simple random sampling and sample level and size in the range of 31-100 were used in the studies. Content analysis is the most common in qualitative data analysis; It was seen that t-test and ANOVA calculations were used most frequently in quantitative data analysis. It is one of the findings that the results of the studies mostly reported positive effects and opinions. In studies reporting negative effects and opinions, it found that teachers need training in teaching thinking skills.

This research seeks to determine the effect of the Storyline Method on students' perceptions and interpretations of historical artifacts through museum education. This research applied the phenomenology design as one of the qualitative methods, consisting of first-year students (20) in a public school in Istanbul. The students were trained for a total of 15 hours, 5 hours a week, on museum education with the Storyline Method. The research data consisted of interviews with children, pictures made by children, and diaries written by them. The collected data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis method. This study aims to receive opinions of the preservice teachers who just started the Primary Teach... more This study aims to receive opinions of the preservice teachers who just started the Primary Teaching Program on how Life Studies course should be instructed. In this study qualitative research method was used and an open-ended questionnaire was applied to 38 preservice primary teachers. The questions in the questionnaire were about why they chose this program and what their opinions were on what would be instructed in Life Studies Teaching in the program and instructional methods to be used. It was found in the content analysis that the preserve teachers preferred the instruction of Life Studies Teaching courses with daily-life examples and real-life events and they thought that it would be useful for them to perform activities about the courses they will instruct in future. Moreover, the preservice teachers provided positive opinions on case study and drama which are the instructional methods that can be used in Life Studies courses. Sharing their opinions of "giving daily-life examples and telling an exemplary situation about the subject" on case study, the preservice teachers also provided the comments "simulation, having the students live the event or performing the event" on drama. The preservice teachers think that using these instructional methods in Life Sciences courses will be useful both for them and their students in future.

This study aims to determine to what extent the characteristics of Life Sciences 2015 Curriculum ... more This study aims to determine to what extent the characteristics of Life Sciences 2015 Curriculum differed from the 2009 Curriculum. Also another aim is to define what teachers' opinions about these differences. To this end, data were collected through a document analysis and an openended questionnaire. Participants in the open-ended questionnaire were selected from the classroom teachers who were coursing according to the 2015 curriculum. It was found in the data analysis that there are units instead of themes in the 2015 curriculum, the number of attainments and skills were decreased and of values were increased. According to the opinions of the classroom teachers on the subject, some of them found the decreasing number of attainments positive while others found it negative. In addition, at points which teachers find positive about the curriculum, were removal of repetitive subjects, attainments becoming interrelated and appropriate for the student level, and activities being simple. The points which teachers find negative were how skills and values do not match attainments, attainments repeat each other and are not sufficient. Suggestions made by the teachers about the characteristics that need to be possessed by Life Sciences curriculum were that different methods and techniques should be included, activities should be appropriate for the student level and should not repeat each other, they should be made to be fun and derived from students' experiences.

The study was conducted with a case study, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the research consists of 32 classroom teachers working in public schools in Fatih, Bakırköy, and Florya districts of Istanbul. In the research, as data collection tool was used semi-structured interview, and data analysis was counducted by content analysis. According to the results of the study, it found that the classroom teachers thought the use of local and oral history in life studies and social studies lessons as the basis of the lessons. In addition, it observed that most of the teachers perceived the concepts of local and oral history correctly.
