Still cowled, Tim claws through the remains of a warehouse that had been standing just a moment again, overturning every piece of concrete and rebar he could physically manage. Even with gloves, rubble clawed at his skin.
“Come on, Jay,” Tim grits through his teeth, trying to fight down the mounting panic. He didn’t have time for that, he needed to keep his head in the game. Focus now, lose his mind later.
He overturns a piece nearly twice his size running purely on adrenaline. His body aches like a mofo, he’s having a hard time just getting his arms to cooperate but he has to keep moving. He needs to keep digging. Jason had clawed himself out of his grave one time, he wasn’t going to let him go through that again. Not alone.
Just hold on, Tim begged.
He had only managed to pull himself out by sheer luck and determination to find Jason. Something hot and sticky poured down his forehead, blocking half of his vision but he ignored it, brushing it away with the back of his hand when it caused too much of an issue, to keep digging—bit by bit, stone by stone.
He remembered the day he lost Jason for the first time, the memory seared in his mind, the way he wailed in Alfred’s arms. He refused to look at Brue, the man who was always too late. Now, he understood Bruce, this time, he was the one who was too damn late– his eyes hot, throat tight, the cold wash of shame leaving him chilled for being just a moment too late.
He had eventually forgiven Bruce. But losing Jason for a second time… How was Bruce going to forgive him again? How was he going to forgive himself?

Summary:
Tim was used to Jason dropping by unannounced, he was used to the man breaking his security for him to deal with later and even getting used to being asked a favor or two. This, however, was not one he was expecting and certainly wasn’t going to turn it away either.

“Wah…wait!” Tim shot up to his feet but didn’t move further than that. “This, you, I…What the hell, Jason.” His brain was scrambling. “Why me?”
Jason looked at Tim like he thought he was stupid for asking, stepping right into Tim’s personally space. He gently lifted Tim’s chin and leaned down to chastely kiss him and Tim felt like he could be bowled over from just the gentle affection.
“Don’t be stupid.” Jason mumbled against his lips. “I don’t trust anyone else to do this for me, meet me in an hour, okay?”
Tim thought it wouldn’t be too bad, transferring to the USS Eureka. Unfortunately, no one thought to tell him ensigns don’t rate cabins on California-class ships, and must instead make do with very public bunk beds. To make matters even worse, one of the other ensigns hates him.
