Jon Snow x Daenerys Targaryen

Foreword:

The canon dynamic between Daenerys and Jon is VERY difficult to capture - in no small part because of the restrictive and clearly defined roles (gender and otherwise) laid out in A song of Ice and Fire. Daenerys is a woman, but a Queen and ruler in her own right. Jon is believed to be a bastard, but is the heir and ‘rightful’ King of the 7 kingdoms. Both experiences are atypical. And because they exist as anomaly’s even within their own world, it makes conveying the way they maneuver with each other and those around them quite difficult. IMO it requires A LOT of skill as a writer to capture this unusual dynamic successfully. Many of the familiar literary tropes which are well done and satisfying when applied to other ASOIAF ships and fandoms at large, DO NOT work with Jon and Daenerys. Below are a few stories, that in my opinion, “get it right.”

“I have not had a tree since mother died,” she said, and it dawned on her once she said it out loud. She had never decorated a tree since her mother’s passing. It had been too painful to think of. Who could celebrate after such a loss? Why would she deserve such joy when her mother could no longer have it?

As if on cue, Jon’s hand squeezed hers back, and she felt his warmth creep across her skin, calming her heart. She had scarcely noticed how quickly it had started beating but now, as her chest calmed, she could breathe freely once more.

“There is honour in memory,” Jon said.

“And pain,” Daenerys added bitterly.

“It is what makes it a memory,” he replied. “The pain of the bygone.”

“Tell me - is it I that makes you so preposterous, or is that a trait of your own?”

Jon chuckled, and he led her on as they made their way back, slowly walking another part of the woods. “I fear it is all you, miss.”

“Under Jon’s government, the North has grown as powerful as Dany’s armies and dragons. They have giants who can throw spears as big as the Scorpions, mammoths, strange explosive weapons offered by the Children of the forest after the NK was ended, etc. In short, they have as much magic as she does.”

“Dany is moving north peacefully to negotiate. During her journey, she enjoys to put on simple clothes to blend in the population with Missi, Grey Worm and Jorah and try to get to know the northerners before she arrives at Winterfell. But she keeps running into this mysterious young man everybody seems to love and who leaves an awkward sensation in her stomach.”

Hello everyone! It’s almost Christmas and that means it’s time for Jonerys Secret Santa!

How does it work?
You get assigned someone and you send them nice anonymous messages on the lead up to Christmas, and then around Christmas you give them a gift - this could be fanfiction, fanart, gifs, edits, etc. It’s a great way of making friends or just interacting with fellow shippers and spreading positivity and love.

How can I participate?
If you would like to participate, please go here and read the rules (alternate link if it doesn’t work) (it’s very important that you do!) then send an ask to indicate you wish to join as well as tell us what you will contribute to the event. Once you have gotten your reply, check here the List of Participants page to make sure you are there, otherwise wait 48 hours and send another ask. 

Important: for this edition, we will be more selective in who we accept as we had some problems with some participants last year, as well as a current trend of some users harassing others. This is meant to be a fun event, so we will try to keep it that way. For more info, check the rules.

The deadline to join is November 17th 2019, and everyone should have their Secret Santa the week after that.
