“Noona? Hello? Are you in there?”

It takes you a second to realize that your little brother Soonyoung is calling you, not snapping out of your reverie until he nudges your knee with his socked foot.

“Huh?” You focus back on the room around you - Soonyoung’s living room, cast in blues from the LEDs along the ceiling’s perimeter and the television, which is currently flashing brightly as his friends Seungcheol and Wonwoo work the controllers in their hands furiously over on the couch. “Sorry, what?”

Soonyoung gives you a little frown. “Chan asked if you want a beer.”

In the kitchen, Chan - Soonyoung’s roommate who is essentially a second little brother to you - waits for your answer, the refrigerator door held ajar.

“Oh. Sure,” you say belatedly. “Thanks.”

Soonyoung’s frown deepens. “You’re being weird today,” he accuses.

Summary - During an arcade outing with friends, Yuta shows off his archery skills with a tribute to you, his partner.

The flashing lights and loud noises of the arcade clouded your senses as you watched your boyfriend, Yuta, pick up a bow and a can of arrows in the archery range. It was the first Saturday outing that most of your shared friend group could attend without the weight of any plans the following day. With such a large group of people, Yuta suggested hanging out at an arcade would be fun and different from the normal meetups at the neighborhood bar. He was right.

You watched intently as Yuta gingerly placed his first arrow between his fingers, aligning it with the string of the bow before pulling back. His arm muscles flexed as he increased the tension, his t-shirt outlining the curves of his shoulders and back. You couldn’t help but stare at the very attractive man you got to call your boyfriend. 

The arrow zipped through the air and landed on the target with a satisfying smack. 7 points, not bad. Your friends let out mixed reactions, some of awe, some of shock. “Wow, I can’t believe you even hit the target,” Yuta’s friend, Johnny, joked. Johnny’s girlfriend lightly punched his arm as if telling him to be nice. 

Yuta turned around to Johnny with a sly smile on his face. “Better watch out before I hit you,” he teased. The corner of your lips threatened to give away your amusement when you saw how Johnny froze on the spot, almost as if he were imagining an arrow going astray and coming after him. 

Yuta picked up another arrow and got ready for another shot at the board. He released it, and the group of you observed once more as it hit the target. 5 points, uh oh. 

“Not so good after all, huh?” Jaehyun, another one of Yuta’s friends, chimed in. 

Yuta fought back, “man, shut it. It was only the second one.” Jaehyun shook his head with a smile on his face. He loved it when he could press his friends’ buttons. 

Yuta shot arrow after arrow until the target was covered in them, and only one arrow remained in the can in front of him. He had placed an arrow in nearly every single spot except for the bullseye. You knew he wanted to hit that red center so badly. 

Your friends fell quiet as Yuta fiddled with the last arrow before pulling the string of the bow taut. Yuta paused for a second, muttering your name under his breath. “This one is for you.” He let the arrow fly and watched it disappear into the sea of arrows already wedged into the board. 10 points. 

Everyone cheered and shouted for Yuta and his last shot, an unexpected victory of the night. “You know, I think I’d want Yuta on my team in an apocalypse,” Yuta’s friend Mark pondered.

“Nah, I don’t think I’d want you on my team,” Yuta quipped. His ego soared as his arm found its way around your shoulders.
