I thought I might share one of my new tattoos. A couple years ago, a dear friend and I coined the term “fish bag moment”
A fish bag moment might be sitting all alone in an empty new apartment after coming out and upending your life, or starting a new job in a brand new line of work because it’s closer to your dreams
It’s what happens when you take a leap of faith or make a hard decision for yourself, when the future is so hard to visualize and everything feels scary. You’re just a fish in a bag and you can’t see where you’re going
But you’re on your way to a bigger aquarium
Ugh a coworker I adore is leaving for a new job opportunity. She was talking about how she’s happy and excited, but also sad and scared and nervous. I was like “omg you’re having a fishbag moment! Those feelings are what this tattoo represents!”
She said “I don’t like this feeling why would you get that tattooed on you”
And I said “because it means you’re on your way to a bigger aquarium 😌”
She had to walk away bc she started crying lol, and then shouted “THAT WAS CUTE” at me from down the hall
This opening completely altered my brain chemistry as a kid and I’ve never been the same since.
it’s so BOUNCY and FUN, even without words you can tell what moves each Pokemon is uses (Girafargig going for a Stomp, Butterfree using Sleep Powder/Gust) as well as visually showing how Quagsire is immune to electricity so Pikachu has to improvise, the personality/attitudes of each Pokemon really shines (Cyndaquil kinda just yawning like “OK, I’m awake, let’s go” before immediately being able to shove off the Mankey, and then letting loose a big Flamethrower like it’s nothing, just so casual), this is just a Battle for fun they aren’t trying to knock out each other’s entire teams so Ash and Lisa are happy to just have a tie at the end, the Pokemon use the environment of the playground as they Battle, both Trainers cheer and cuddle with their Pokemon through it all… it really is BEAUTIFUL
Just to add on to this sentiment, Lisa’s not exactly a major character in the film right? This battle happens with her just kinda crossing paths with Ash and co, and then she leads them to the town where all the eventful stuff is actually happening. And yet despite that, they take the time here to clearly show her own attitude and that she has her own relationships with her pokemon. The specific ways she gets excited when they’re doing well and disappointed when they lose their part of the fight, it really gives the impression that she’s someone with just as full and eventful a journey as Ash has had.
Here’s a fun story of malicious compliance to brighten your day:
Until recently, a few people in my office had these desk shades to combat the obnoxious fluorescent lights, which is very helpful for people (like me) with migraines or other light-sensitivity issues.
A few days ago, everyone who has them was told to take them down. Different people were given different reasons - It violates fire code (it doesn’t) / It blocks line of sight (sort of?). Since this goes against the existing status quo, the union reps (my beloved) jumped on it. Someone jokingly suggested using umbrella hats instead, since hats are allowed in the dress code. Today, the union reps are passing out these ridiculous things in protest:
If the rules are absurd, the resistance should match.
