Talks by Laura Kanost
A professor and former student discuss integrating service-learning projects into a conversation course in a college town with few native Spanish speakers. Most students, despite having completed a two-year sequence, have had very little interaction with native speakers outside the classroom. When they develop mutually beneficial relationships with native speakers, students overcome anxiety, improve proficiency, and gain cultural competency. We will share course materials and innovative service-learning models, including a web-based project using Skype.
