@lajulie24

"La Julie” (say it with your best French accent). She/her. Aspiring witty old broad, trying to save my last fucks for the things that really matter. Writing fanfic (lajulie at AO3 and FF.net) and sharing thoughts about Star Wars things, literature things, kickass women and feminism things.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility from my OC!

[ID: A pencil drawing of Ameria with her moonstrider, Layla. Ameria is an elf who sits in a manual wheelchair. She has long white hair that's braided and draped over her shoulder, horizontal face markings with dots underneath, and horn cuffs on her horns. She wears a long dress, pants, dark books, a simple necklace, a rib brace, and compression gloves. She holds a large trans flag spread out behind her and is saying "Trans rights are human rights!" Layla is a service pet, and wears a vest indicating that. She holds a bisexual pride flag in her mouth. Layla is barking and says "Trans rights or I bites!" /end ID]

For the mystery asks, how about 6 and 24?

Avatar

wordless ways to say "i love you": 6. tucking your head into their neck during a hug.

a/n: two prompts? that's greedy :P you can have one for now. inspired by this post, a different take on Leia?

::::::::::

Her body used to be softer, Leia thinks. Rounder, warmer, pliable, solid. Not like now, when she feels like she’s been filed off into cold sharp angles, when she feels like she could become unmoored and float up and away. She was a river stone, softly shaped by a tenderness that grounded her. Now, she’s a spike.

Affection is second nature to her, and her body remembers that. She was raised to the comfort of touch; she knows to offer it with ease. She thinks nothing of touching a stranger’s arm, of hugging a colleague in triumph, of wrapping an arm around a grieving soldier’s shoulders.

She’s starving; she hungers for touch. It’s not the need that scares her, that hungry void; it’s the fact that she can’t seem to take to touch like she used to. Her body viscerally rebels against it. When she gets injured and they tend to her wounds, she shivers and feels nauseous. Chewbacca gently ruffles her hair, and Luke pats her back, and Han drapes himself over her shoulders, and she stiffens even as she smiles, her skin turning to durasteel. She gets into her cot and piles up the grand total of two blankets she’s been given and all of her clothes on top of her, and the weight isn’t enough, but she closes her eyes anyway and pretends she’s being cuddled.

So, I absolutely love this! And to be honest, I’d forgotten I’d been so greedy with my asks, though I certainly am very happy to see the result. ❤️ This has quite a healthy dose of angst, which makes the tenderness at the end all the more powerful and real. Love how you subtly show Leia’s loved ones showing up for her and her gradual acceptance of touch returning as she recovers from the Death Star and the loss of her family and world. And the way Han is set apart is so wonderfully done.

Not an invitation to cocoon yourself in a self-care bubble for four years, but a reminder to the 24/7 worriers that you can literally write "To Do on Monday: Worry about ________" on a post-it note and stop worrying about it for one day while you recharge.

Another point: Both your mental health and your ability to resist will be improved by finding a community. A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved. And apes together strong.

Highlighting connecting to the land here, too. It's not woo woo bullshit that being in nature has incredibly positive, tangible, well-documented impacts on your body and mind (that link is a meta analysis of research from 2011-2021).

But more than that, connecting to the land you are on is an essential part of building a sense of community, connection, and a will to resist. Being sensitive to the natural world- by which I mean literally building up your familiarity with it to better understand your environment and what's happening in & to it, as well as your emotional connection to it- is a fundamental part of protecting and building up your own emotional depth & sensitivity.

Fascism, authoritarianism, and white supremacy all rely on shutting you down emotionally & numbing you to increasing terror, horrors, and cruelty. Joy is resistance. Community is resistance. Love is resistance. Grief is resistance. Sensitivity is resistance.

Don't just touch grass because the internet is toxic and out of touch. Do it because they are actively trying to take your connection to the land away because doing so makes you vulnerable, fearful, numb, disconnected, and easier to control.

i haven't watched a single episode of severance and while it does pique my curiosity at this point i think it's way more interesting and funny to learn everything i know about it via tumblr osmosis

Reblog to do psychic damage to Severance stans
