I've been keen to watch this for a while and it definitely lived up to the hype. While undeniably true to gothic romanticism in it's somber tone, it's also incredibly grounded and lacks supernatural grandiosity, leading to a greater emphasis on the character themes of ruin and isolation, as well as the tragic violence that the genre is known for.
