A stellar directorial debut from Dev Patel. This film has so much more heart and depth to it than one might assume. A league beyond just another John-Wick-esque revenge film. Bombastic action and truly inspired direction. A film that gives a voice to many and puts a spotlight on themes that may not under other circumstances.
Culturally rich and informative.
Uniquely and confidently stylized.
Thematically profound and bold.
This film is a strong declaration that Dev Patel has stories to tell and will present them with intent and skill to back up the style.
A truly heroic endeavor. Hail the Monkey King!
One of the more refreshing modern takes on the bad seed genre. A movie that seems predictable at times but miraculously has enough twists and turns to keep things fresh. A rare instance of a movie that refuses to end and benefits from that endeavor.
Beautiful blood, unique death, and phenomenal effects!
Bonus points for having blood splatter on par with an Evil Dead film.
The best VHS since the original. A great string of talented directors. Not a single bad segment.
As usual the frame of the narrative is the weakest part but the rest of it delivers some of the most unforgettable sequences out of the .
-Devil Cyborgs
-Mr. Potato Head Zombies
-Vampire Cults
-Exploding Rabbits
-The Immortal Raatma
This movie was made with love. And lots of fake blood. Pushing things in a unique direction and still maintains the heart of the previous films. This is exactly how you keep a horror franchise undead.
-Just as excruciating as the original Evil Dead.
-Just as intense as Dead by Dawn.
-Just as humiliating as Army of Darkness.
-Just as refreshing as ED 2013.
I just wish the high rise had as much personality as the cabin.
Bonus points for the MF DOOM shoutout.
