PSA: Never go hiking. Because of the incredibly cliche title, I went into this movie with no expectations of what might happen and found myself shocked by its rapid escalation and very homogenous cast. By making the characters relatively unsympathetic, the whole movie had me conflicted as I cheered for the hikers' downfall while flinching at every appearance of the Lovecraftian forest monster (the loudest thing to come out of Sweden since Abba). In this day in age, it's an all-too-rare treat to watch men suffer the consequences of their actions.

Watching this movie is the most alive I've felt since watching the 2023 Speaker of the House elections. Coincidentally, Mike Johnson also won his election on a campaign of endangering pregnant women. The entirety of this movie takes place in a single room, but that doesn't stop them from addressing key social issues in such lines as "How about we kill all the black people next?" and "So aliens want me to die because I'm gay?" Starring pivotal characters including Unnamed Cancer Survivor, Woman #4, and The Counting Man, this movie is "shape"-ing up to be my favorite deadly voting game since Among Us.

The Geneva Convention clearly forbids psychological warfare, and yet no one stopped me from taking my mom to see this during my senior year of high school. Pretty goose movie trying to make ME cry?? As someone who read the book multiple times in elementary school, I went into this with high expectations that were absolutely met. Also I have trust issues over Kit Connor's flawless American accent.
