I'm usually pretty desensitized to weird stuff, but the last 40 minutes of this has given me one of the most grotesque feelings I've ever had watching something. My reaction was downright cartoonish. Though an air of surrealism hangs around throughout, the show's agonizing commitment to naturalism completely fails to prepare you for that final sequence. Safdie's knack for realistic dialogue makes it feel genuinely real, which somehow makes it even more nightmarish.
