The last hour really shines when the first half of the movie was a mixed bag of too many ideas.
I really don’t understand why taking Hunter away from the family that loved him in an attempt to bring him back to his mom made any sense. Inherently, he’s a bad person for doing that. Sure you get to be with your mom but it’s still a broken family. He met her selfishly, for his own closure. Even if Hunter…

(All three sufjan Stevens songs in the second half of the movie really took me out of those emotional moments. Especially at the end, could’ve done without it. The piano soundtrack was way better)
This didn’t have to be so bad. Zoe Salaña was quite great, and I’ll give credit to the creativity of this movie. But the musical numbers are pretty heinous barring a few numbers. I don’t know why you’d make a musical with people who can’t really sing. If the point of musical numbers are to really emphasize the emotional components, especially in such an emotionally conceptual movie, of each character more effectively, (aka all musicals) why is the singing so…
