Toby from a few years ago would have despised this movie, present day Toby thought it was pretty good!

It’s so incredibly on the nose to the point that I almost applaud it for committing to the bit so hard. If you can distance the actual plot from the heavy handed commentary it offers, you have what is on its own a fun sci-fi flick, but then I see, like, literal red hats pop up and it does induce some eye rolling. That aside I love to see an original sci-film that doesn’t feel too too derivative of past sci-fi titans! It’s a shame that this gamble doesn’t appear to have paid off because I’d love to see more movies like this.

Brave the Dark 2023
Far less preachy and far more sincere than I was expecting from an Angel Studios film.
