True Grit 2010
Always one of my favorites from the Coen brothers, but this viewing finally kicked it into the next gear. This is one of my favorite movies ever made. The storytelling is simple and strong, the themes moving and deeply felt. Just as brilliant on third viewing as it was the first two times around. I don't know how anyone manages to pull off this tightrope walk, but Bong does it to perfection. It's what a movie should be: truly surprising, fresh and new, thrilling and powerful. You never know where it's going, and where it finally winds up is just perfect.
