  Damn, what a bummer. I really wanted to like this and have been looking forward to it just cause I’ve followed Flying Lotus for a while and dig his music. Maybe I had too high of expectations that his musical chops would translate to the big cosmic horror scene. But this just felt pretty amateur, first film quality (even though it’s his second).   Gave myself a week to sit with it. Wasn’t needed. Thoughts didn’t really change. New Bong is always gonna be an immediate watch, but doesn’t mean he’s impervious to a fumbled execution. Seems to be the case here. Just doesn’t quite come together in a satisfying way. Enjoyed watching all the way through, but you can tell fairly early on that this will not rise above some of the unsteady first act plotting. Has already faded from my memory. I…

That fuckin eye contact scene in the courtroom is so fucking well done, I’m fully on board for everything Pascal puts out going forward. And Gariepy better be cast in everything now.
