The Hand of God be my witness. I am the Voice from the Outer World. I will lead you to paradise!

Breathtaking storytelling. Visually stunning without feeling forced. Impeccable sound and score. Denis allows the sand to swallow you whole and suck you into Arrakis. No gimmicks, no big reveal, just an outstandingly paced odyssey which allows Paul to undergo fantastic development as our protagonist, our Michael Corleone. The best sequel since The Godfather Part Two and I’m not being hyperbolic.

DAMIEN CHAZELLE THE MOTHERFUCKING GOAT!!! He made a coke-fuelled Singin’ In The Rain remake with the La La Land score in the back and people think this isn’t the best film of all time? Then to top it all off he went and absolutely nailed the ending, the mad man. I’m on cloud-fucking-nine right now!

There’s not many people doing it all anymore. When Moses came on and Kelly and O’Connor start tap dancing, I realised that nobody is doing this sorta thing anymore. Do they care? Shout out Tom Cruise. Broadway scene is still jarring, but this time, I’ll concede that it isn’t that out of place. It just goes on a bit too long and becomes a bit too slow. All-timer regardless. Shout out Damien Chazelle for Babylon.

Robert Pattinson, I have a plan for you (and it involves a lot of silly accents). Some fantastic performances here, but Steven Yeun is criminally underused. I think I really liked the movie overall, but like Snowpiercer, something was missing. I’m always a bit skeptical about critiquing movies based on plot / character problems when it’s based on source material, but I did not rock with the ending.

Loooved this, just had to sleep on the ending but yup, absolutely. I nearly jumped up and screamed when Patrick did his serve. Zendaya gives a career best, powerhouse performance, and Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor are also on top form. So many gorgeous sequences here … the wind, the Caetano Veloso’s Pecado montage, the ending match. Guadagnino is on his way to a special run. Just an incredibly engaging movie in every facet, playing with time and structure perfectly. And it’s HOT, it’s very very HOT.

    Bye.

Subtly the best line delivery of the year. I was going to give it 4.5 but then I started bawling my eyes out during the final scene and credits. The image of Callum walking both into the darkness that will now consume him without Sophie and into the depths of her memory as they part was seriously too much for me. All whilst that beautiful yet haunting score plays on? Nope. Masterpiece.
