Unsettling, disturbing and gorgeous hilarious film. I had a particularly pleasant experience with a theatre full of people glued to the screen in sheer disbelief, I could actually hear a gasp mid credits and a sigh of sheer relief when the lights came up.
The film is beautifully shot, close ups draped with sticky and wet foley noises. I was delighted by the mysterious character after which each chapter is named, I need to see this film again.
To me it felt like a poem by a foreign author, I didn't quite understand what the story meant, but I'm certain of what it made me feel
Jigen Daisuke (2023) is a movie that doesn't offer anything I never seen before, but what it shows it does very well.
The use of color and lighting is noteworthy, I like the way it emulates a comic/manga panel with deep contrast and silhouette, while maintaining readability. It's a standout example in the trend of pitch black cinema you can only enjoy in a cave deep underground.
