I was very excited for his movie, and was mildly disappointed.
Robert Pattinson gives an awesome pair of performances, and, from a psych nerd, the idea of 2 copies of a person having differing dominant personality traits gives me a lot to think about in relation to schema’s and different parts of the psych; it was great fun to see a visual representation of sub personalities interacting with each other and I love the concept.
The political parallels are blatant…

I liked the first and last 15 minutes of this movie.
Once the initial traumatic family death happens there isn’t a whole lot of necessary story inclusion other than Hal having problems with vulnerability and shame, and the addition of Petey.
For almost the entire movie, there isn’t a character that is likable. I wouldn’t have cared if anyone died; Based on the themes of the movie, however, this is likely purposeful. The movie does explore nihilism and existentialism, but…
I can’t figure out how I feel about the pacing of this movie. I like the idea of it all happening simultaneously to an extent, but it set up expectations for me for a climactic moment where Almut dies/has recently died, a wedding or happiest moment happens, while current Tobias is doing something without her. All of these things happen but they happen at a weird time to me story wise.
