It was sparsely funny and shockingly tame for its time.
It seems more like a holdover from the late 1950's than a film made in the swinging early 70's.
I can understand why it wasn't a hit. The trailer made it look like it was going to be a fun steamy sex romp like "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice" but ultimately there's just a lot of talk and the only person who even gets remotely undressed in the film is Arkin himself.
All three women (Sally Kellerman, Paula Prentiss and Renee Taylor) look amazing though.

Companion 2025
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
A combination of Ray Bradbury's "I Sing the Body Electric!" and the film "Ready or Not" that I never knew I needed so badly.
Sophie Thatcher looks and sounds so much like "Natural Born Killers"-era Juliette Lewis. No wonder Sophie plays the younger version of Juliette Lewis's character on the show "Yellowjackets".Translated from by

Frances Ha 2012
I have to admit, my absolute passionate love for Greta Gerwig may have made me a bit biased, but damn was this a great film.
It's pure joy from beginning to end. Even in parts where Greta's character Frances is at a low point, being avoided and tossed aside, she always stays her wonderful upbeat quirky self, and the film is so much better because of it.Translated from by -
Ed Wood 1994
This is the only Tim Burton film that I enjoyed, and it's amazing.
I loved the way Johnny Depp played Ed Wood, with exuberance and careless abandon. And Martin Landau, of course, brought Bela Lugosi to life in all his boisterous, drug addled glory.
I love that the film gives Wood the happy ending he wouldn't get in real life, and that it's shot in black and white. If the film were in color, it just wouldn't fit somehow.Translated from by
