The Rules of Attraction 2002
Bret Easton Ellis says this is the most sincere adaptation of his sensibilities on screen— and I honestly enjoyed this art house film and the scene where they meet at school is just perfect. Some meta commentaries on the post modern condition through out were also witty and adept w black humour. I have to give a big thumbs down to glamorizing self harm throughout the film though.

The Substance 2024
The Substance is an art house, body horror film that reveals the west’s obsession with vanity and youth through deep perverted irony while referencing Greek mythology throughout. The lack of complexity and surface level engagement with the subject just made this film tiring to watch. There were some redeeming aspects to the plot in the last 30 minutes, but nonetheless I wish that they had delved more deeply into the subject matter, I left feeling unsatisfied
