  Something something politics of the gaze.

  Something something inherent perversity of the recorded image.

  Prods at the slasher genre while simultaneously pioneering it (if scream 4 is to be believed). and would be SO interesting to bite into if there wasn't a wealth of excellent film theory to read on this already.

  Haneke circa Funny Games - Romanek circa One Hour Photo (basc a remake) - Papa Schrader- Marilyn Times Five. Fokin errybody. They are indebted to this one and there's no way round it.

  By design, this film places the viewer in a spot to draw their own conclusions, The character introductions and general plotting in this film are not as clean-cut as they would be within a conventional narrative, so I was watching this pretty passively at first. Somewhere around the midpoint of this film is when it actually starts to become enjoyable. The confines of this structure opens the door for some very fun storytelling devices.
