thrilling, before rapidly becoming irritating. mainly because 99% of the men in this film are highly unlikable, unethical, despicable. such was the coverage. outside any context, a good movie. however, since nothing can ever exist outside of context, it’s reduced to ambivalence. and that was a choice. an uncomfortable one. surface level, nauseating portrait of reality. unnecessary.

masterfully crafted film.
would never sit through it if it wasn’t, given i’m not particularly fond of the grotesque. with this one, though, i can actually say it isn’t gratuitous. could’ve been done differently, but then again it wouldn’t be what it is if so.
i get it, the substance.
colour theory, mise-en-scène, camera work - everything has a purpose. and it works. i’m uncomfortable. and i see it.
and while a one time watch was particularly more than enough for this viewer, no regrets here. i didn’t enjoy it. but then again i shouldn’t.
great job, miss fargeat. keep at it.
