Pretty paint-by-numbers storytelling at times and surprisingly mediocre on a technical level for an Oscar nominee, let alone winner. That being said, there were enough resonant moments in the last half to make me understand why it became a favorite.

The whole time, I was getting some serious Good Will Hunting vibes, so it blew my mind when Matt freakin' Damon showed up out of nowhere. He seems to do that, like when he had a supporting role in Interstellar so close to The Martian. Anyways, most of this wasn't anything I hadn't seen before, but it still worked pretty well. And Sean Connery was really great in this role.
