The best of the Hobbit Trilogy! While it still suffers from being overlong and overstuffed, the sense of adventure and the immersive scope makes it a very enjoyable watch. I still think if you cut the fat from the entire trilogy, you're left with two excellent hobbit films; but the prequel aspects of this film aren't as disjointly incorporated as the other two instalments.

The decision to also make it a lord of the rings prequel disrupts the films pacing and extends the runtime well beyond what is necessary for this story. Fortunately, its still well made, has excellent performances and Jackson still makes the world feel immersive
