There are so many undeniable moments in Psycho, most of them pure wordless cinema. It’s the words that get in the way. Everyone knows the psychiatrist’s speech is a masterclass in guilding the lily, but the rest of Stefano’s screenplay is peppered with the same bad habits. His overwritten, often pretentious dialogue cuts against the light touch of Hitchcock.

The Blue Gardenia 1953
The first half is very strong. Snappy dialogue, strong direction, a perfectly creepy peformance from Raymond Burr, Nat King Freaking Cole, and a plot that hinges on the heroine getting completely sloshed (unusual to say the least).
But the second half is a repetitive slog that completely misses an obvious plot twist - How did Crystal, Nora’s roommate, not end up as the main suspect? Especially considering Raymond Burr had just drawn a portrait of her and written her damn phone…Translated from by
