    The Monkey

    ★★★★

The Monkey is a surprisingly dark comedy-horror about a toy monkey (sorry—don’t call it a toy). Bear with me. I say “dark comedy” loosely, because there were moments I genuinely couldn’t tell if the film was being serious or just mocking me.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot was stronger than expected—not just another possessed toy rehash—and it threw in some Final Destination-style moments that genuinely caught me off guard. Sure, a few kills were predictable, but it…

    Army of the Dead

    ★★★

I’m conflicted over this one. I typically love all things undead, and I do admire Zack Snyder’s work—but Army of the Dead felt like every other Snyder movie rolled into one.

The alpha zombie concept didn’t entirely make sense, and the sharp swings from brutal gore to dark humour left me feeling a bit sea sick. That said, the visuals and VFX were undeniably impressive, and the desolate, post-apocalyptic Las Vegas setting added some much-needed grit and atmosphere.

There’s something missing here, though I can’t quite put my finger on it—and don’t even get me started on the spin-off.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The story, characters, and visuals are all well-crafted. While it does have a few predictable moments, it manages to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. Miles delivers a perfect performance, and who doesn’t love Sigourney Weaver in a sci-fi action movie? I have a strong feeling that this will become one of my regular rewatch movies.

    The Electric State

    ★★★

The Electric State is undeniably stunning, with epic effects and a standout performance from Millie Bobby Brown. The original book was an incredible piece of storytelling, but something didn’t quite translate to the screen.

The film felt overcrowded, with too many elements crammed in, leaving subplots feeling incomplete. And as much as I hate to say it, Chris Pratt just didn’t bring the same charm he usually does. I was really looking forward to this one—while it was entertaining, it ultimately left me wanting more.
