Not a bad idea for a premise to start, but this film feels like 3 different movies in one. It can’t make up its mind what it wants to be. It’s not scary. It’s generic without really delving into anything. Just felt instantly forgettable as soon as it ended. However, the lead actress gives a truly really great performance.

The Vanishing 1988
An outstanding, near perfect film. I’m still thinking about it a day later. The slow, subtle, step-by-step nature of this movie is truly what makes it so terrifying and sickening. Like a ‘wrong place, wrong time’ accident that stretches over years before coming to what feels like a predestined conclusion. Here, Rex epitomizes the frog in boiling water apologue. His righteous fixation on his singular obsession blinds him from seeing what is actually happening to him. And honestly, I can’t say that I blame him in the end. I think I may have done the same thing, which makes this film all the more horrifying.
