The only thing horrific about this movie were the attempts at humor. Started out covering my eyes, finished with rolling my eyes. Osgood Perkins, more like Isbad At Writing Jokes. I’ll be here all week.

Directed by Hausu's Nobuhiko Obayashi, School in the Crosshairs is a stylish and dizzying experience. It continues the "IRL anime" spirit of Hausu, with deep saturated colors and darkly contrasting black. While it has clear budgetary limitations, it matches and beats many $345 million dollar Marvel films in pure vibe. I'll take B-roll of early '80s Japanese cities with hand drawn fireworks on it over gaudy CGI blue lasers any day of the week. It's just such a unique film…

This is without a single shred of doubt the worst film that I have ever seen in my entire life. Terrible script, terrible set design, uninspired acting and directing, obnoxious subtitling, pointless gross-out humor and full penetrative nudity. Peter Vack thinks he is some genius auteur while just making 1.5 hour long IRL South Park episodes minus anything funny or interesting. No distribution company will ever pick this up, a film like this will live and die on the hard…

This is the best film of 2024 by a wide margin. This is Sean Baker's fifth sex work related film, and the level of knowledge and passion related to this topic really shines through. I cried multiple times, the ending was fucking perfect, Mikey Madison deserves an Oscar for Best Female Lead or whatever the fucking award is called. Excellent script, excellent character actors, makes the most out of a smaller budget. This movie just has a beating heart that most films these days just don't have.
