This is one of the most visually beautiful films I’ve ever seen, I felt like I was drowning in the depth and detail that was conveyed by the camera in each shot. So fucking rich it was amazing. From a narrative perspective it really does build quite slowly, meaning we really accelerate rapidly towards the conclusion. As much as the time loop is really fun and does fit the myth of ghosts that is established, it very much becomes a…

Really reads at face value which isn’t a bad thing. It’s shot quite well and showcases mood and human interaction nicely, however it falls short in setting up personal relationships. Being thrust into the story is fun if it’s compelling but this tries to slow it down too much at times and unravels. Glad that it does not glamorise sex work though, feels more realistic if not nuanced.

There was an attempt. Honestly I get that this is a biopic drama but the execution just left so much to be desired. Genius!! Thought this was super cool and actually genuine diaspora storytelling. On the nose in parts but I would attribute that to the need to appeal to a wider audience through stereotype. Enjoyed how much subcontinental film tradition makes its way into the film. Visually great! Main thing I am not a fan of is how two-dimensional Ria’s friends were for how central of a role they played, Bottoms did it better.
