    Once the shock, blood, and gore wash off, we're left to wonder what it is that Fargeat wants to say about aging and toxic beauty standards. The message is frustratingly muddled. It didn't sit well with me that the film made it seem that it was mainly Elisabeth's fault for wanting a better version of herself. I at least wanted the film to take a stronger stance that an unfair, patriarchal system is also culpable for pushing women to undergo painful, horrific transformations.
