Tension, suspense, drama amongst family, and a spiritual divide. Oh and an alien invasion. This is what love about this film.
We have a renounced priest and father whose ways have changed since the tragic accident of his wife. As he is navigating being a single dad and never truly getting over his wife's death his brother moves in the barn out back to help out.

A film that I would just put on at any time of day. I have seen this film so many times and it still brings me joy. Directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg so, it has that going for it, but it also has Tom Cruise starring in it as a divorced man and a father having some of a disconnect from his son and daughter. I love beautiful films and this one truly gets me. The vacant home from civilization standing firm in a mirage of wheat grains. The un-touched blue sky with pillowy painted pristine clouds in contrast with the orange wheat field with coal-stained people walking through. The locusts raining down from above infecting the land. And the torched fields now with flames dancing and dazzling with each flame grabbing another, reaching farther and farther. You can't help but be in awe. Truly mesmerizing.
Bringing that childlike wonder and awe every time, whether that be from the soundtrack, the acting that lets me know that they are just as amazed to be there as the viewer is, or the grandiose dinosaurs (thanks to the FX crew).
The genre switch from a happy family affair adventure film to a heartracing, terrorfying horror film is always riveting and peak of interest for me.
Such a classic.
