what did people like about this movie? no one in it does anything for any reason. the opening scene is great; one of my favorite establishing sequences in recent memory. and then we just stop establishing the character. and all the other characters.
if your movie is going to be 85% meaningful glances and silence there needs to be a lot more meaning in the glances
sparked an argument with my wife and bf about whether this would work and if so whether it's a moral obligation, which i think the film's writers would be happy to hear.
tense, interesting, great use of color and light. some on-screen arguments where you can really feel the 22-year-old nature of everyone involved.
Obviously the context in which you watch a film is important - i watched this one in an old theater in the U district, with a dozen movie weirdos. It is one of the best films I’ve ever seen. I have seen so many films about robots that boil down to either
1) the robots were people the whole time
or
2) the robots decided to kill all humans
1 is obvious from minute five and 2 is better done with a more interesting horror monster.
This movie has a genuinely fascinating angle on autonomy and selfhood.
