  freaky and undeniably scary for most of its runtime. plays out like a romantic tragedy for ellen, thomas, and count orlok, even though its nothing short of madness and horror. not the finest of his works (the vvitch remains undefeated) but, robert eggers, youve done it again !!!!! and youre right, you should never ever make a movie set out in the modern times

  an alarming number of use of the word 'mother' which loses its essence by the 23rd time you hear it, just like how the film loses its substance as the story progresses. it bites and it bites until it doesn't have anything left to chew on, which is quite unfortunate, really, because the film wants to say something (maybe too many things at once). it drags on for a while without reaching any firm resolution for the characters, but still…
