Seeing as this is my 10th viewing of this movie, I think I'll try and make some kind of an effort to put my thoughts on it into words, as difficult as doing so may be. I did something similar for Eraserhead, though there, my thought process and interpretations were much more concise and cohesive, at least that's what I'm anticipating. This is the first and probably only time (there's now more than one) I'll be writing a long form review, as I think it's warranted, here. For a few years now, I've considered Spirited Away to be my favorite film, through its artistry and emotional resonance with me, among other things. And while I cannot understate how impactful that film is to me, I think for at least a while, I've been lying to myself about that. I think Eraserhead…
Need to begin rewatching this as often as I do for Stop Making Sense and True Stories. I forgot how intricate and smooth so much of the choreography for the show is from my first viewing, everything feels so meticulously perfected, in particular with like the timing of movements and such. Giarmo and Kuumba in particular were somehow always in sync and smooth with their dances, incredibly impressive.

Might be the funniest movie ever made. But maybe it isn’t. At the very least, it’s the most charming. Like how can you not love the scene of a man dancing as seen through a window, or the dinner scene, or the lip syncing scene, or the history lesson, or the driving especially the driving; Byrne, as well as the rest of the cast are incredibly charming in this. Every character is so fun and eccentric it’s so wonderful!!
Alex Weir is so cool (as is everyone else but I always forget how kinesthetic he is in this)!!!
And Byrne’s red hat during “Take Me to the River” is so silly!! Why is it there?? He takes it off so soon its such a weird little addition!!
Life-affirming experience!!! I love art!!! I love humanity finding ways to express desires and emotions!!! I love creativity!!! I love big suits!!! I love lamps!!! I love running around in a big circle!!! I love that thing that Tina does where she's sort of walking in place!!! I love music!!! I love voices!!! I love life!!!
