This movie was exactly as advertised - awkwardly charming, funny, and fully submerged in socio-political critique. Though it feels very obvious and surface level, I don't think that makes it any less intricate than Parasite, which is the unavoidable comparison I hear people bringing up. Mickey 17 was never going to match it's predecessor in that way, and that's okay. It was an entertaining movie and still contained multitudes.

Alien: Romulus 2024
Oh my god he's Aitistic.
This was a delightful return to the core themes/vibes of the original Alien. The VFX team deserve their Oscar, but beyond that the set design, costuming, cinematography, editing, all of it worked in tandem to create a truly gripping, tension-driven horror.
And what a beautiful mix of campy, yonic, goopy, and freaky design that went into every corner of this film. And intimacy! Without ever getting an on-screen kiss, between characters who want to be…

Nosferatu 2024
I consider myself a monster fucker but... damn. Not on Eggers level apparently.
Still, was refreshingly similar to the source material and paid some nice homage to German expressionism. Performances were great. I think that I'm a little tired of women's bodies being used as a literal device for the plot and sure the story is from the 1800s but can we get a fresh take on the horror of female desire?

Aliens 1986
Hits more like an action than a horror, which isn't a bad thing but it feels like wasted potential to switch the genre so early on in the series. Still so fun though, with just the right amount of cheese. We love final girlS (we don't love that only women can fight each other but I'm not THAT mad about it). Some sick shots top it off to make a good ride :)
