This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
You can really see how this film is the blueprint for so many imitations. Maybe a quarter of them live up to the legacy of this film.
The character work done by Toshiro Mifune is the best of its generation. I kept catching glimpses of his other characters within the idiosyncrasies he struts on camera, and even saw how his mannerisms rubbed off on performances from as far as 70 + years in the future.

Gonna go out on a limb and say this movie needs time before it can really be appreciated for what it is, kinda like Jennifer’s Body. Cole Sprouts is at his best when he’s limited to grunting and whatnot.
