somehow this has become a comfort movie for me…

wow, those 4 hours truly felt like 1.5 max. epic, epic film. genuinely confused at how people like the first half more, esp after my 2nd watch! for me, there were a few things amiss until the second half of part two (when they get to new york) & then i was hooked till the very last image and sound.
the cinematography & writing is at the highest caliber, but still feels contrived at times - esp in the first half & esp…
Pain is always felt in ways we can see & understand, and ways that are beyond our grasp. The Brutalist takes that latter intangible part of pain and makes it so profoundly tangible, palpable, and powerful for the audience. It is such a visceral feeling to know you are experiencing pain that will weigh down your soul for long after the pain itself has left your life; Corbet encapsulates that perfectly.
