97 years later and this thing is still so damn cool. The restoration looks so gorgeous and Maria Falconetti's tears are engraved as one of cinema's most emotional performances ever. Absolutely ahead of its time.
This movie feels like when it's almost past winter and the snow is all melting and all the excitement for the upcoming spring is in the air but there is still snow or at least a slushy dirty version of it and you try to kick it off and take off your shoes but it tracks inside in the process and it gets over your socks and dirties all of the clean floor and you end up forgetting that winter was almost gone in the first place.
Intimate. Sad. It makes sense that an artist like this grew such a negative surrounding after the Islamic revolution of Iran. I feel for her. I want to share a cup of tea with her and hear her stories she's accumulated over this lifetime.
