    This doesn’t feel like a directorial debut. Although this is filmed on a shoestring tv budget, Spielberg being allowed to film on location is MASSIVE and his visual language helps to make this feel expansive and thrilling. Things that would be ordinary for any other director are heightened here, constantly putting the viewer at the edge of their seat. This is also looks amazing for something first shown on TV in the 70s. Some of the dialogue scenes feel superfluous, as some of them were added to justify a theatrical runtime, but overall, this rocks.

    Just insane vibes and texture. Even without speaking, you can feel the personalities emanating off these guys. A very specific but very accurate depiction of those guys you know hanging around your high school town years after graduating. Everything about this movie is fascinating, with its odd rhythm of editing, the juvenile transitions, and the pitch perfect recreation of the late 2000’s, early 2010s. Manages to be as quietly poignant at the same time conjuring huge laughter at the character…
