Third rewatch, first in my twenties. Currently second sitting and mid watch, but interim review as I predict it’ll take me a few more to finish.
With a more mature eye, there was so much potential here. There could have been a serious exploration of marriage, infidelity, love, illness and pain. But what could have been an interesting mesh of these themes is masked by OTT acting and writing.

Like a few of the reviews say, you really can’t ignore how good this is on a technical level. And so four stars it is because to take more away would be unfair.
But…there wasn’t enough in this for me. Maybe it’s the fact that there’s no one, nothing, to root for, to care about. Which would be fine (I suppose) if it was 90 minutes but you’re looking at 146 here.
I can understand why this film has the legacy it does, but it weirdly just didn’t have enough heart for me.

Man does everybody on letterboxd hate this film.
I do agree that this sequel was unnecessary and didn’t really add much that wasn’t already said in Joker.
But two things I was a fan of:
1) The lighting.
The cartoon sequence in the beginning had me intrigued and I loved the use of shadow to represent/distinguish the Joker from Arthur. Of course, this is why I ended up noticing how much the film played around with the use of shadows to…
