I liked it. It's not something I'll see again, but it was different. It was sad. Sosie Bacon gave a hell of a good performance.

    ★★★

I have to add my 2 cents that I was not a fan of the color grading for this film. I also found the film to be a little repetitive and dragged out. I found it quite stagey, and the performances, save for Rooney Mara who was great, as always, to be over-the-top. The music was very nice though - and I did feel an emotional pull towards the ending. There was a fantastic movie hidden somewhere in there.

A masterpiece. Spielberg's best film possibly ever?

It perfectly blends the whimsically sentimental child-like perspective (wonder) of his earlier films with the deeper, darker messages and meanings found in his more grounded, complex, and mature films of recent years.

It's a beautiful film about Spielberg's own childhood, and a touching homage to his family and to his love for film. It's wonderfully paced. Hilarious at times, dramatic and upsetting at other times. But always optimistic and looking for the 'good'…

This is not for everyone. I wasn't big on Sam Mendes' last 2 films, but Empire of Light hit close to home for me. I especially liked the friendship between Olivia Colman and Micheal Ward's characters. The ending was great.
