This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Not the feel-good movie I was hoping/expecting. While not a complete misfire, a lot of scenes rubbed me the wrong way. The scene with the blonde guy in his dorm room, his chosen family just watching him go off with a guy that they clearly think is sketchy and the way his bff and mom react to his coming out. Then Lea Delaria does a number at the end and that's supposed to be a happy ending.
Good soundtrack, and fun to look at. I did enjoy watching his outfits/hair get gayer.
It doesn't get any better than Kathleen Turner moshing and setting fire to Justin Whalin at an L7 concert.
That. Was. Bleak!
This movie resonated with me, cuz I tend to have lapses in my own memory and every time it happens i literally question my own sanity. Watching these characters go through that constantly is probably my nightmare. Any time someone is able to recollect anything, it only turns out to be a fleeting moment and they're back to square one. What do you do when you're stuck in that kind of mental purgatory; unable to truly trust anyone, and the information they give you. Unable to trust yourself.
I'm probably going to have a nightmare about this soon.
