I do not need to watch this movie to know that it is a disgusting portrayal of an abusive relationship and trivializes the serious consequences of domestic violence. Colleen Hoover's romanticization of abuse in the book is disappointing, and Justin Baldoni's decision to adapt it into a movie is even more upsetting and concerning.
The use of abuse as a plot device in a cliché love triangle is harmful and disrespectful to those who have experienced real-life domestic violence. Trigger warnings should have been included in the trailer and promotional materials to prevent re-traumatization for survivors of abuse.
