This film would’ve been good if I hadn’t read (and loved) the book beforehand. The absence of Lee and Samuel Hamilton takes so much away!! A 1955 portrayal of Lee would have likely been awful but still. The reduction of Adam into a one dimensional strict religious father takes so much away from his character (“You're bad! through and through, bad!") especially when in the book he never directly condemns Cal in the same way, with his rejection far more…
