A heartwarming Indonesian bittersweet drama, but...
It could do better.
First of all, the premise are solid enough.
Our main protagonists (Moko) have to live his life in a tragic way. It already won my empathy. But the drive only last throughout the opening sequence.
This film felt like they ran out ouf fuel on the act two. They're not maintaining the drive, while Moko are not capable to ignite it anymore. Draggy, lack of character growth, and easily guessed…
My eyes are glued to the screen during the whole film. Tracking for every variety of movement, while my ears filled with various noise of props in the film. And also scoring. I take that as a 'beauty'.
Sergei Parajanov seems want to tell something behind every colours, movement, sounds, even the textures of their wardrobe. I sat in my seat, focused and confused. However, it expose me a new reference—in terms of my journey discovering art and visual aesthetics.
Definitely best to watch at 3 AM.
