  My favorite part of this film is the Existentialist Themes. the existentialist sees human existence itself as absurd. Our nature has no particular design, and the natural world doesn’t have a particular purpose. To live a meaningful life, we have to face this absurdity.
  This absurdity is shown as the local media portrays Bickle’s violence and rage as valor acts. Yet the media doesn’t know about Bickle’s attempted assassination of Senator Palantine, his killing of an armed robber, etc. Bickle doesn’t tell anybody his inner thoughts and embraces his hero status, saving his newspaper clips detailing his “heroic” actions.
