Simultaneously doing too much and not enough. Not without good bits, but could've been funnier, scarier, smarter and wilder at various points.
Did appreciate the random TV On The Radio drop at the end credits though.

Watched this only for the first time a few years ago and it didn't land. Read the book last month, then went to see it in Cameo 1 - much more engaged with it! High camp and unapologetic Gothic horror vibes. Not thrilled with the changes to the female roles (I'm a book-Lucy defender), but can understand wanting to expand the Mina role.

Gods, I enjoyed the hell out of this film. The pageantry and iconography of the Vatican was matched by all these queens (incl sassy vape). Absolutely gorgeous framing and shots, great use of sound and music, surprisingly funnier than expected, great performance from Ralph Fiennes - felt like good grown up cinema.

*(didn't realise you could do that on Letterbox at first, then felt it would distort previous rankings if I started. But fuck it, 2025 is gonna be the a full year of half stars)
