This movie is both upper-tier post-Endgame MCU movie, but lower-tier MCU cinema. New Cap and New Falcon still have good Old Cap and Old Falcon chemistry, it managed to make me kind of emotional seeing two characters reprised from a film I don’t even like (The Incredible Hulk), and I appreciated how the stakes weren’t “we have to save this world and all of every single one of all of the worlds of the whole entire times forwards and backwards…

That Christmas 2024
Equal parts heartfelt and fun while embracing the magical aspects of Christmas, and the communal power of Christmas. You’ve either never felt more alone, or more close.
My daughter’s current favorite movie.

Gun Crazy 1950
Surprisingly modern considering it’s from a filmmaker I don’t think I’ve seen anything else from. The style and content feels more influenced by New Hollywood post-Bonnie and Clyde, but preceded it by decades.
The characters are a bit thin, and wished there would have been more time spent establishing a relationship between Tare and his sister’s family before he’s seduced by Annie, but the quick pace and some excellent robbery and getaway scenes make it an easy watch for action over drama.

I, Tonya 2017
Avoids all cliches and standard contrivances of the biopic format by integrating [hilariously] conflicting reenacted personal accounts of the events, along with the depiction of the events. The take is fresh, the performances outstanding, and it's a stylized portrayal of a tragic downfall of an athletic talent - and the lengthy amount of misunderstandings and background context around one of the most prominent stories in American sports history.
